Have the presence to do good works

"In the Christmas story, the gospel of Matthew refers to the newborn babe, Jesus as Immanuel, God with us. God with us on this earth, every day. It is about Jesus being present in our lives. He is not an absentee God but a God that resides in our hearts. An important aspect of His presence is that He can relate to all that we go through because Jesus is both man and God. He knows and understands the human condition. For those that are followers of Jesus, He has set an example for us to follow; we are to be present for others.


One Tuesday morning a couple of weeks ago, as I was driving past the High Point Public Library on Main Street, I saw three homeless men walking towards the library. Every Tuesday, Pastor Dan Hodgson with ACTS Ministry serves breakfast with a group of volunteers. Not only do they serve breakfast, there are staff members from Partners Ending Homelessness helping those that might be eligible for housing. Dan is bringing other resources to help meet the needs of people who have no place to call home.


When I saw these men, the very first thought that came to mind were the words of Jesus, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” (Matt 8:20). Jesus can relate to the homeless because He was homeless. Jesus knew what it was like not to have a place he could call home that was safe, warm and dry..."
